4 Habits To Instill In Yourself To Become A Boss

The world keeps producing entrepreneurs. It is almost as though there is a startup in every family. While our parents and the generations before depended on the government to provide them with business opportunities, it is such a relief to see really young people taking their lives in their hands and being self-reliant.

Billion dollar companies have been established from high-school dorm rooms and innovative solutions to global issues from remote corners. It is a rave in the atmosphere that everyone is catching. You should be happy to be born in this generation. I know I am!

However, there seems to be a lot of confusion and discouragement overtaking the enthusiasm most people started with. Especially when things don’t turn out as planned.

Here’s how to kick off the discouragement and stay focused till you have the desired results.

Stay cheerful

You will meet people with better ideas. Maybe certain investors may prefer what they have to offer compared to yours. That’s fine! You may write many proposals and probably get turned down by the first five or ten people you meet. Don’t panic!

Keep meeting people and keep talking about your ideas. If you’re still honing your practical business skills, stay upbeat and don’t relent in your efforts. The more you stay positive, the more you learn and discover what you need to improve your ideas.

Positive energy is what leads others into believing in you. When they mock you and criticize you to put you down, keep smiling! They will have no choice but to help you.

Put up foundations to the castles you have built in the air

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” ―Henry David Thoreau

There is nothing wrong with a little day-dreaming as long as it stays big enough. Keep building castles. It doesn’t matter if they are drawn on paper or painted on your walls. Just make sure you see it every morning when you wake up and every night before you sleep. If you can see it every day, then you can live it!

Don’t get tired of starting over

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now”- Chinese proverb.

If you are feeling like you have wasted a lot of time in the past, the best way to stop that feeling is to start all over again.

Maybe for some reason, you don’t feel like what you have achieved is enough; it’s on you to change things.

You have to start living more intentionally, more passionately, and more curiously. Life isn’t a just numbers game. The asset of having an extra few years or doing an extra few things doesn’t by itself change the quality of your life.

To establish a business that stands the test of time, you have to know that you are never too old to make your dreams come alive.

 Increase your appetite

When an athlete is in the middle of a sprint race, he is putting more into it and getting more out of it compared to the spectators who are just cheering him.  At the end of the race, he gets a price. The spectators don’t.

That is the same approach you should give your work. The process of creating a business entails a complete immersion into the business. You don’t stay at the surface, you go neck deep.

So many of us simply exist for something so far into the future that we forget to live for the present. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in the game. If you are not hungry enough, you won’t ascend greater heights.
