Living your life is all about making decisions.
Every single day you wake up, you are faced with choices. Your whole life is a box full of options just waiting to be picked out. How you pick these options is all that matters.
Lately, I don’t think I go a day without being told I have to follow my heart and do what I am passionate about. The world has gone crazy over being independent, trusting your gut and finding your own path to success. You are told not to join the wagon but to be unique in all you do.
The problem is we often get to a point where we don’t even know where to start being ourselves or doing our own things!
Finding your purpose is not about sticking to just one career or goal. You are not entirely defined by your job, your relationships or even your families.
In order to figure out what your life is all about, you have to give yourself the highest regard. Focus on you as a person and not what is happening around you.
Fulfill your purpose by taking one day at a time
For most people finding your purpose isn’t the issue.
Some people have figured out exactly what they want to do for the rest of their lives. However, fulfilling that purpose seems to be a problem because they don’t have a clue on how to begin. If you fall into this category, my advice to you is to take one step at a time.
Your presence today may just be to offer someone a hug when they are at their lowest moments.
If the big dream you have is being helpful to needy people by having a charitable organization, for instance, don’t wait till you build a structure and have board members before you begin. You can start fulfilling that dream by sharing what you have with a less privileged person. No matter how small it seems.
Gradually, you will see your plans falling into place.
Fulfilling your purpose means being the best you can be
One of the major reasons why people don’t make the best decisions in life is because they haven’t taken the time to work on themselves.
You have to ask yourself what you would do if you woke up this morning and all your obstacles disappeared? What would you spend your time doing if you had no bills to pay?
If you have answers to those questions and that perfect picture is vivid to you, then that’s exactly what you should be working on achieving.
Being the best version of yourself makes fulfilling your purpose easier because it gives you a meaningful existence. It is easier to impact positively on others when you have worked on yourself.
Don’t be afraid to make bold steps
When you are trying to fulfill your purpose in life, it sometimes gets confusing. Don’t panic because that only means that you are genuinely creating your own path.
Knowing your purpose also doesn’t necessarily mean you will always be sure of where you are going, or that you’ll always know what to do. But you have to keep going forward.
Let your experiences guide you
Your experiences in the past, whether they were pleasant or awful were not random in any way. Your past happened so you could be groomed and prepared to face the future.
Everything you have learnt is what makes you the person you are. Your interests and skills and all the things you are passionate about are all compasses guiding you to fulfilling your life’s purpose.
Be certain of the sacrifices you will make
Fulfilling your purpose in life comes with its special set of challenges, no matter how effortless it may seem in the beginning. You have to know what sacrifices are worth making.
There will be times when you will have to work and times when you will be frustrated. Don’t get discouraged. The most important thing is making sure all the sacrifices you make eventually pay off.
