Habits can make or mar us on our road to success. The thing about successful people is that they build successful and rich habits that help them navigate the obstacles of life. But what habits should we observe that will make us not only richer but more fulfilled?
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle
Yes you may not like giving, perhaps you feel it is an uncomfortable thing to do. But giving can be one of the most satisfying and fulfilling things you can do. Being kind is a nourishing habit, not only on yourself but on those around you. It also boosts your self-confidence and allows people around you to treat you better. Be kind this year and perhaps look for an act of kindness you can undertake every month. Volunteer a piece of your time, energy and resources and be proud of seeing how this action will make someone smile.
You cannot live on the pain of worries, negativities and anxieties and expect to be fulfilled. Life is about seeing the best even in the worst. You should develop positive thinking this year and always believe in things working out for your good and that of others.
Being healthy can be crucial to your long term success. Your body has a large role to play to taking you towards the goals you want to reach. So why not keep it healthy and strengthen it with the exercise and mental discipline it deserves?
Know those things you want and that truly matters to you and make it a daily habit of pursuing them. By identifying what truly matters you will be able to develop personally and professionally to cater for them. Prioritizing affords you the opportunity to simplify, focus on what’s important and to build the life that you want.
Improve your relationships
Stay away from toxic and negative people. Rather seek the support and association of people who steer you towards your goals. Improve your relationships and define what you really want from those around you. Be clear about how your relationship should benefit you and how you would benefit any relationship. Don’t spend time with people that will put you down, but rather with people that will take you up.
Happiness is not about the things you don’t have. So don’t consume yourself in what is out of your reach but with those things that you currently have. Learn to show gratitude. This is an activity you can practice daily. Every evening you can write on a journal what you are grateful for that is happened to you during that day, week or month. Remember, there is always something we can all be thankful for.
Improve your spending
Many people live from paycheck to paycheck and are victims of impulsive buying. Because you have money does not mean you should spend unnecessarily. To have control over your finance you have to learn to save and spend more than you earn. Improve your spending habits this year. You can find ways to save by breaking down your spending daily.
Spend time with those who love you
This may be the most important item on the list, although it comes last. Yes we are all caught up in busy lives. But we should never be caught up with being so busy that we ignore spending time with friends and family who matter. If such ones are out of state, find a way to communicate constantly with them. At the end of the day, our relationships with those who we care about and who care about us can define our happiness even in ways we cannot imagine.
